  • Easy access to restaurants & coffee shops

Aren’t you sure yet what your freelance path will be? In that case you can always decide to have a look at our SEO and content training and become a freelancer for Mindfulness, Travel and health. Writing has never been more fun before! However, let’s move on to our selected top 10.

Destination nr 10: Malta

A destination we are very familiar with, since most of us are based here. It has plenty of restaurants and coffee shops to work from, and no matter where you are located you are close to the sea.

Wifi connection you can find in most places, which means you can even work from your favorite beach club. There are a lot of international companies based in Malta, for which you can work freelance and besides that, it is an island full of people from different nationalities. If you are planning to stay here longer than a month, you can book an apartment alone or rent a room in a shared flat.

Accommodation in Malta you do not have to book before, you can just come here and take the apartment on the spot, long-term or short-term. If you just decide to stay here while freelancing on a travel basis, you can stay in one of the hostels or Airbnb’s provided.

Malta however, is a very safe country and very pleasant and stable country to be in.

The prices have been going up last few years as a result of its popularity, therefore, I give Malta a well-deserved 10th position.

The budget a day: between 5 – 20 euros
Apartment alone: 600 – 1200 euros a month
Apartment shared: 200 – 600 euros a month

Malta Freelance place

Destination 9: Spain

A great destination with a soul is Spain, here you have the whole package. Although it is not for the fast-paced people out there. Budget wise this is a great destination, depending on where you are settled. Expect higher accommodation prices in the big cities like Barcelona and Madrid, but the south will treat you a lot better. It really all depends on your taste.

Eating outside is very easy and cheap, we wouldn’t recommend to work in a busy tapas restaurant, as there would be too much noise. But culturally, it has a lot to offer.

A slight minus, get yourself a Spanish course, as most people speak in Spanish, same as the organized activities, depending on the place you are settling. However, just to make sure you find your way do some Spanish courses on the side! If you are a content writer, languages you rock easily.

Daily budget: 2 – 10 euros
Apartment price Barcelona/ Madrid: 300 (shared) – 1.200 euros (one bedroom) a month
Other places in Spain: 100 – 600 euros a month

Destination 8: Thailand

A

A very popular destination among travelers of all sorts. Bangkok is a very popular destination to work from as a freelancer. You have plenty of options concerning (street food) and a lot of restaurants have WIFI. Many international travelers and international companies are settled in Bangkok, so you could have plenty of work to do.

Another famous city to work from is Chang Mai. A city of attraction to many tourists and businesspeople.

Accommodation is up to 12.000 baht, depending on the area and the luxury. For a less luxury studio or one bedroom flat you pay between 2.000 – 5.000 baht.
Converted to euros that would be between 60 – 149 euros, and a more luxurious would be around 365 euros a month. You can make it as expensive as you would like, but we chose a more budget estimation.

Daily budget: 1 – 7 euros
Small Studio: up to 100 euros a month
Normal apartment: up to 400 euros a month

Freelance destination Thailand

Destination 7: Portugal

A beautiful place in Europe, where you can be close to the sea. From Lisbon to Porto, there are several choices of cities where you can settle. Even though you will have to deal with the winter, there are several activities you can do year-round. It is a very popular place for surfers and if you are eager to learn a new language, Portugal is the place to be.

If you like picturesque villages and cities, and you are not afraid of a slower pace of life, than Portugal might just be the perfect place for you.

The prices are slightly rising but are still quite low in comparison to their fellow European countries.

Daily budget: 2 – 10 euros
Apartment (shared): up to 100 euros a month
Apartment: 150 – 800 euros a month

Costa Rica Freelance

Destination 6 : Costa Rica

Costa Rica is another popular destination among freelancers, however, like the other countries we won’t recommend you to live/ stay in the capital. As there is not much to do and not the safest place to be.

There are many beautiful places in Costa Rica, and you might be surprised that even if you live in a small town in the jungle, you will have strong WIFI.

Live the life of Pura Vida in Costa Rica, while freelancing, it will be a promised adventure.

Accommodation and food are both very cheap. You do not need a huge budget to live in Central America. The official language is Spanish, but you will be surprised how well English is spoken in Costa Rica.

Destination 5: South Africa

South Africa is a beautiful destination to freelance from. Do not only think you can go there for safari tours, which are amazing. But the city life is great too and there is a huge community of expats.

Popular cities to work from are Durban, Cape Town, Pretoria, Port Elizabeth and Johannesburg.
However, Johannesburg, a metropolitan city, also has a high crime rate. But there are plenty of places where you can stay that are safe.

The prices in South Africa are generally lower than in USA and Europe, which makes South Africa an attractive place to go for expats. With the wildlife, cultural diversity, beaches and metropolitan cities, you could have it all. Therefore, South Africa deserves the absolute 5th spot.

Destination 4: Argentina

A very stretched country with a diverse landscape. Tango, horse riding on the prairie and wine tasting is one of the things you can do in Argentina. The country offers plenty of entertainment and going out for lunch, dinners and drinks is very common.

Argentina has many cities where you could work from, but by far the most popular is the city Buenos Aires. However, do not overlook other gems like Cordoba, Mendoza, Palermo and if you are truly cold-resistant you can go to Bariloche, located in the middle of nature.

WIFI connections can be found in most places, depending on the city you live in. Buenos Aires is a very diverse place, though it would be smart to take a Spanish course before settling in.

Daily budget: 3 – 15 euros a day
Apartment (shared): up to 200 euros a month
Accommodation price: up to 400 euros a month

Argentina Freelance SEO

Destination 3: Czech Republic

Czech Republic has a huge community of freelancers and even to find work there is quite easy. Lot of international companies are settled in Prague, and you could find common freelance communities.

Prague is a city that has been increasing the prices a bit due to popularity, but in comparison to other countries in USA and Europe, this is quite an attractive place to be.

The process of applying for becoming a freelancer is quite straightforward and people of the younger generation have no problem speaking English, German and some speak Russian.

Daily budget: 1 – 10 euros a day
Apartment (shared): up to 275 euros a month
Apartment prices: up to 540 euros rent

Destination 2: Philippines

philippines freelance

This destination is chosen on the second place as it has English as an official language, besides Filipino, which makes settling into the country a lot easier. Compared to the other Asian countries it might be a bit more expensive, but in place like Manila and Cebu, there are many business opportunities.

As a freelancer you can settle in the city and travel around the country any time you like. There is much nature to see and the nature is breath taking. However, like every country it has its pro’s and con’s. Philippines does have a high rate of earthquakes and tsunamis. But like everything in life, we can’t predict the future, and it does not take away that this is a wonderful destination to freelance.

Daily budget: 1 – 10 euros
Apartment (shared): up to 200 euros a month
Apartment/ studio: up to 450 euros a month

Destination 1: Indonesia (Bali)

A very upcoming and popular destination if you like jungle, surfing, spiritual relief and tropical beaches. The prices are still relatively low, and it is a very safe country. Many freelancers have already found the place which is a Walhalla of like-minded people with who you can gather up.

You can find healthy and relatively cheap food all over the island. You can live in a hostel since the prices are so low or you can rent yourself an apartment.

If you do not like to be in the tourist crowds, you can find you ways to the quieter parts of the island. There is something for everyone out there.

Because of the diversity, the beauty and freelance friendliness of the island, this is our nr. 1 chosen destination.
